Iyengar® Yoga classes are suitable for all ages and abilities, that includes everyone, irrespective of age, gender, health, religion or flexibility. Regular practice of Iyengar Yoga builds suppleness, flexibility and strength. Effects can include a general feeling of improved physical health and psychological and mental well-being. If/when ill-health arises, it is likely yoga will help you to face and manage it.
I teach the Iyengar method of yoga created by B.K.S. Iyengar the world’s foremost yoga teacher. All Iyengar teachers are trained to very high standards and fully insured: this is part of the reason why Iyengar Yoga is one of the most widely practiced schools of yoga worldwide.
Iyengar Yoga offers precision and great attention to alignment. This focus can alleviate postural/structural problems. Iyengar Yoga is demanding in effort and attention to detail within the posture, which increases concentration and focus helping relive the body and mind of stress. Asanas (poses) are taught in a specific order providing a safe practice so maximum benefits can be gained. A distinctive feature of Iyengar Yoga is the use of equipment (props) to enable a student to achieve the pose to their full potential. Iyengar teachers are trained to select the correct prop and to supervise the individual student.
Iyengar Yoga is not competitive. You will not be gauged against other people, as every student is encouraged to work within their own capabilities.
Iyengar Yoga is only taught by accredited teachers after years of rigorous training. As an Iyengar Yoga teacher I am fully insured and undergo regular professional development.
Before starting any yoga class it is important you ask about the teachers qualifications and know they have a minimum of two years training.
